The Crimson Queen, the Scarlet Sorceress, the Blood Witch, was once a woman, a Mage, like any other. She was born into great wealth, and chose to pursue Aquamancy as a specialty. She found being a Sorceress was quite to her liking.
Her magical studies progressed rapidly, and she was soon the pinnacle of Aquamantic knowledge and skill. She could manipulate water in ways that no other Mage could, and even learned to maintain control while asleep. She kept a basin of water by her bed, each night as she dreamed she would form countless shapes from the water.
In time, her fame grew and her wealth with it. She had an extravagant mansion, servants, vineyards, fields, and more. She had many would-be suiters, but eventually chose one to settle down with.
Her lover enjoyed the wealth she offered, without holding much interest in the magic she practiced. This eventually led to strife in the house, and many arguments. In time, her lover became disenchanted with her altogether, desiring only the wealth and nothing else.
It happened one night that as she lay resting one evening, after an extended period practicing magic with others, her lover approached her.
"I am tired, dear," she said, "would you have a servant fetch me something to eat?"
"Of course," her lover replied, "I shall bring it myself."
Her lover went and brought from the kitchen a steak on a platter. When the dish was offered to her, she looked up at her lover.
"Dear, this must be cut before I can eat it. Do you have a knife?" she asked.
"Let me bring one to you," her lover replied. Her lover knew that she was very powerful and would defend herself from any attack. So, with utmost care, the knife was brought forward.
It took but a moment, and she was dead. Her lover pulled the knife from her heart and stood to survey what had happened. The hands of the killer, once the lover, were covered in blood. Then they twitched and moved- the hands turned the knife and plunged it into the heart of the killer.
The Crimson Queen arose. Her heart had stopped, yet blood continued to flow through her veins. With her power, she kept her blood moving. No longer was she an Aquamancer, but a Sanguimancer, the Mage who used blood.
Her heart never started up again. To this day, the Crimson Queen leaves the wound open, even though she could have had it magically healed. She kept it as a warning to herself, to keep her from ever loving again. It never bled from that day onward, her control over the blood in her veins was flawless.
She lives alone now, no servants or attendants. She has used her skill with Aquamancy to bind water elemental spirits to her blood, which she has drawn out gradually. These spirits serve her unquestioningly, bound by the magic in her blood.
